Cove Chatter 100: #47

Ian Gardeck | RHP, 22 yo, 6-2, 215 | 2012 Draft – 16 | (A) 44 G, 56 IP, 3.21 ERA, 7.2 H/9, 6.4 BB/9, 10.6 K/9

A Tommy John survivor with a stout frame and a high-octane bullpen arm in the organization. Was the top JuCo prospect in the country in 2011 prior to transferring to Alabama. Sports a low to mid-90’s sinking fastball that gets away from him at times. If he can improve on those insanely high walk rates, I think he’s a sleeper relief prospect with a ton of upside.

They said it: “Gardeck struggled with control, but the potential is there as a middle reliever with a very quick arm and heavy fastball.” ~ David Lee, Augusta Chronicle

  1. the nature of the draft in 2012: 3 days of drafting. Teams came back for day 3 after a night of arguments in the draft room, hit the 16th round with a purpose. Gigantes chose this cat.

    1. With those Augusta arms moving up to SJ next season, we should start to get a better look at them. I decided to pick up the MiLB tv package last year as an add-on the the MLB package, and I definitely watched some SJ games now and then. I don’t think Augusta has a video broadcast… so the Dog Pound II should be worth tuning in for… not to mention that starting rotation as well.

I'd love your feedback!
