Chris Marlowe | RHP, 24 yo, 6-0, 175 | 2011 Draft – 5 | (A-) 7 G, 8.1 IP, 1.08 ERA, 5.4 H/9, 1.1 BB/9, 6.5 K/9 | (A+) 26 G, 7 GS, 70.1 IP, 3.97 ERA, 9.1 H/9, 4.5 BB/9, 7.0 K/9
Drafted fairly high in 2011 (5th round), his in-game performance doesn’t seem to match up with the scouting reports. Mid-90’s fastball and a hard-breaking curve that’s been called the best in the organization at one point by Andy Baggarly (you can see it in the video linked below) are the positives. Career 5.2 bb/9 and injury issues are the negatives. He’s been tried as a starter, but I think his future is in the bullpen. He wasn’t good at all in July or August this summer, and he’s older than a lot of the others. A bounce-back 2014 would do his stock a lot of good.
They said it: “Oklahoma State right-hander has above-average fastball, nasty curve, and incredible K/IP ratios in college. Could move quickly in relief if his command is sufficient.” ~ John Sickels, Minor League Ball
